HomeTote Rentals
Rental Terms
Last updated October 13, 2026
These terms apply to every booking with HomeTote Rentals LLC (“HomeTote Rentals,” “we,” or “us”). By checking the box on our request form, you agree to all of the terms below and to being contacted by phone, text, or email about your rental. Questions? Email team@HomeToteRentals.com.
1. Booking and payment
- Sending a request does not book your totes yet. We will confirm your dates by text or email.
- Once confirmed, we will email you a secure Square invoice. Please pay within 48 hours of receiving it (or before drop-off, if that is sooner) to hold your date. If we do not receive payment by then, we may release your date to another customer.
- Prices are listed on our website. Ohio sales tax is added.
- Drop-off dates start 1 week out. If you need totes sooner, email us and we will do our best.
- You must be 18 or older to rent.
2. Rental period and extra time
- Each package is a 1-week rental that starts on your drop-off day.
- You can add extra weeks when you book at your package's add-a-week price.
- Need more time in the middle of your move? Just ask, ideally a day before pickup. We will always do our best, and extra time is billed at your package's add-a-week price.
3. Cancellations and changes
- 24 hours or more before drop-off: cancel or change your date for free.
- Less than 24 hours before drop-off: a flat $25 fee applies, and the rest of your payment is refunded.
- After drop-off: your rental has started, so it cannot be refunded.
4. Military and first responder discount
- Veterans, active duty, Guard and Reserve, military spouses, police, fire, and EMS get 10% off their entire rental, including extra weeks. It can be combined with our student pack.
- To get the discount, check the box on our request form and show a valid ID in person at drop-off. That means someone eligible needs to be there, so discounted drop-offs cannot be contactless.
- Accepted ID includes a military ID, military dependent ID, VA ID card, VA health card, an Ohio driver's license or ID with the Veteran designation, or a police, fire, or EMS department ID. We check your ID in person and never copy or keep it.
- If a valid ID cannot be shown at drop-off, the discount is removed and the difference is charged to the card you saved with us.
5. What you can pack
Pack your everyday household things: clothes, books, dishes, decor, office supplies, sealed or packaged pantry food, and closed liquids (ex: shampoo, drinks, or cleaning supplies). Make sure caps are tight; bagging liquids is a good idea.
Please do not pack:
- Food waste, trash, or open or perishable food that could leak or spoil
- Open containers or anything that is leaking
- Hazardous materials, such as paint, pool or lawn chemicals, gasoline, propane, or anything flammable
- Anything illegal
Please pack each tote so it can be lifted safely, and keep each one under 75 pounds (the tote's weight limit).
6. Drop-off and pickup
- Please make sure we can safely reach the drop-off and pickup spots, and check that both of your addresses are correct.
- Drop-off and pickup need to be within our service area unless otherwise agreed before you pay. An extra travel fee may apply outside our service area and will be included in your invoice.
- Have someone 18 or older available, or agree with us in advance on a safe spot to leave and collect the totes.
- If we arrive and cannot drop off or pick up (no one is there, we cannot get in, or the address was incorrect), we will work with you on a new time. A $25 return-trip fee may apply.
- Once totes are dropped off, they are in your care. If you leave them outside, that is at your own risk.
7. Returning totes and the dolly
- Have the totes empty and stacked, with the dolly, at the pickup spot and time we agree on.
- You do not need to wash them, since we clean every tote. But please wipe up all spills and messes. A $5 per tote cleaning fee may apply if spills or messes are not wiped up.
- Please keep lids with their totes. Zip ties can be cut and thrown away.
- If the totes and dolly are not ready at pickup and you did not request more time, an extra week at your package's add-a-week price applies, and we will set a new pickup.
8. Lost or damaged totes and dollies
- We count every tote at pickup. Normal scuffs and scratches are fine.
- If a tote is missing or damaged (cracked, broken handle, or will not close), the replacement fee is $15 per tote.
- A missing or broken dolly is $75.
- We will always talk with you first.
9. Charges to your card
If you save a card with us through Square, you allow HomeTote Rentals to charge it for any fees described in these terms, such as extra weeks, late cancellation, return trips, cleaning, or lost or damaged items. We will always tell you about a charge before we make it.
10. Your belongings and your move
- We drop off and pick up the totes. We do not pack, load, move, or unload your belongings. You are in charge of your move.
- Our totes protect against crushing and weather, but they do not cushion what is inside. Wrap dishes, glass, and electronics before packing.
- HomeTote Rentals is not responsible for loss of, or damage to, anything you pack, store, or move in our totes.
11. Safety and responsibility
- Lifting, stacking, loading, and moving totes, and using the dolly, comes with some risk of injury or property damage. You use our totes and dolly at your own risk, and you are responsible for using them safely and as intended.
- HomeTote Rentals is not responsible for injuries or damage that happen while you, your helpers, or your movers use our totes or dolly, including from overpacking or improper stacking or loading.
- If anyone makes a claim against HomeTote Rentals because of how our totes or dolly were used during your rental, or because these terms were not followed, you agree to cover that claim and any costs that result from it.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, HomeTote Rentals' total responsibility for any claim related to your rental is limited to the amount you paid for that rental.
12. Weather and the unexpected
Sometimes things outside our control (ex: severe weather, road closures, or emergencies) can delay a drop-off or pickup. If that happens, we will let you know as soon as we can and work out a new time with you. If we cannot make your booking work, we will refund what you paid for the portion we could not provide.
13. Ohio law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio.
